MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Well what a year it’s been at “The Oasis” since our inaugural BBQ last June 2010. The weather did not co-operate that day, but the food & drinks were fabulous (thanx to sponsor Sandy Williams Bayliss). We had a blast and we could not have done it without our sponsors. We hope you find our first newsletter of interest, as not only is THE OASIS about the construct of the buildings, it’s about the people living in it AND conversing with the community that surrounds it. This time last year – we had nadda. Not even a coat of paint, ooooh some bathroom stuff, but certainly only a pot to pee in so to speak. FURTHER TRADES REQUIRED The colours we selected are cool, calming, and contemporary. What we do need still is some tilers to come and finish what we’ve started (we have the tiles). We also need new flooring in the living room & the two bedrooms upstairs. We need intercom/security, between the upstairs and downstairs. We could also use a huge flat screen tv/monitor (Not needing new) for those movie nights where we’ll have the neighbours and their kids come by for a night out of free fun & entertainment. To give you a sense of the community we’re trying to build at the OASIS, without me being too dramatic, I can see firsthand the benefits of neighbours. No not the kind that say hello in the hallway on their way in or out of the fab condo’s and hope you don’t want to engage in any way. We’re talking about the kind of people that reach out personally, because they care. Everyone finds themselves in some difficult situation at some point in their lives, whether it’s divorcing the mother/father of your children. Whether it’s a job loss or illness, we all could use a hand up. PROJECTS
The kids in the neighbourhood came by to plant seeds, and learn about the benefits AND NECESSITY of mason bees. NATURE
THE ARTS For seniors like Betty-Lou the interaction and outdoors presents great joy, and everyone knows, they can drop by anytime. The screening room will double as Betty Lou’s Art Studio, where the kids come by weekly (for free) and learn how to paint, make candles and iced tea or juice and cookies.
There is a sense of community at THE OASIS FACTOR. WE ARE THE COMMUNITY.
